Hi, my name is Courtney, and I am a coffee addict. I know there are millions of other coffee addicts out there, and there's nothing wrong with that! There is research that coffee could help protect you against type 2 diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and liver cancer. Coffee can also boost your energy levels, mood, and various aspects of brain function. You know, that "I can't function before a cup of coffee" saying happens for a reason! (Literally- I've been putting off this post because I wasn't done with my cup of joe) But, you know those flavors you put in your coffee because "you just can't" with the taste of black coffee? Or that Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino - hold the whip- drink you order in the morning? Those creams, syrups, sugars, and flavors are causing some MAYJAH problems for your health. For the record, that Starbucks Frap has 550 calories! A sugar and fat bomb. BOOM. I used to be that girl who would order the worst Starbucks drink, and put in pumpkin spiced flavored creamer in the Fall, because, DUH. I also used to put in artificial sweeteners, which are even worse. Artificial sweeteners can cause health problems like obesity, metabolic syndrome, high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. After reading articles about how terrible these "miracle flavors" were, I knew it was time to cut the crap. I want to tell you guys how I went from ordering a venti iced caramel macchiato upside down with extra caramel (fact) to ordering a black coffee.
It all starts with baby steps. You want to start to wean yourself away from the creamer. You will add less and less creamer to your coffee, to the point where you don't add any. Once you get close to no creamer, then you add in half a spoon of sugar, to less and less, eventually getting to none. If you can't yet stomach the no creamer and only sugar, then add in milk, and eventually wean yourself off of that. Once you have no creamer and no sugar, you add in cinnamon. (Which is so yummy and great to keep doing) Once you get here, you will notice the tastes of different coffees and how delicious a proper cup of joe is.
- Week 1: Wean off of coffee creamer and/or milk.
- Week 2: Add sugar, adding less and less each day.
- Week 3: Add cinnamon.
- Week 4: ENJOY YOUR BLACK COFFEE!
You want to know what happened when I cut out the crap? The little pooch that was under my belly button went away. The fats from fake foods and drinks just gather and sit there. Not cool. I know so many people who store fat in certain places, and it all has to do the fake processed things we put into our bodies. Some people eat very little processed foods, but once they start taking notes of what they are putting into their bodies, the morning Starbucks run is usually the indicator of why their body is holding on to fat.
Take my steps to drinking black coffee so your body can reap in all of the benefits our beloved coffee has to offer! You may become a coffee connoisseur! And you will get sh*t done- the healthy way!
